Tonella is a company specializing in the dyeing and finishing of fabrics. One of the company's strengths is constant innovation and the search for the best fabric processing techniques. It developed in 2015 a cold dyeing technology with a very low environmental impact. Tonella is in fact partner of the WOOLTEX Project developed with Manunet-Finpiemonte. The process consists in passing the wool fabric in a machine where it comes into contact with the plasma (the effect is that of a light flame) and then it is dyed even when cold and with a single wash, while in the traditional technique there are three washes and the temperature is raised to 98 degrees for 40 minutes. For 420 kg of fabric, only 9,000 liters of water are used instead of 16,200. In addition, the process is continuous and lasts a few minutes, reaching to dye up to 5,000 meters. While dyeing the fabrics as has been done so far, a single process lasts 284 minutes, is discontinuous and only covers up to 1,500 meters of product.
