“I like to call myself a farmer. I have been involved in the recovery of biodiversity for almost all my life, especially in the fruit sector. My delight is working with the children of the Occhieppo kindergarten, for whom I organize educational courses. I usually take the children to visit my apple orchard which includes 180 plants of different varieties. Children learn to observe them and then to taste them, they learn to eat with their mouth and not with their eyes. I am a fundamentally curious type, I try to assimilate as much as possible and to pass on to others. My farmhouse will stay here, but if I can't pass on my knowledge, it will stay with me. I organize pruning and herb courses and educational courses for schools ”(Marco Maffeo).
Today Marco has, thanks to his thirty years of work, almost 700 different varieties of apples and 250 of pears that differ in flavor, texture of the pulp and, of course, color of the skin, a real fruit museum.
