Tecnomeccanica Biellese deals with the design and construction of blending plants for wool-cut textile fibers (wool and cashmere) and tailor-made production, with the aim of offering systems that are easy to clean and maintain, also from the point of view of waste.
The company created the Woolres - Wool Recycling Ecosystem project, a system designed to clean up water basins from black tides with the use of greasy wool as a "selective sponge" of oily substances.
Thanks to lanolin, the raw material is highly water-repellent, but capable of absorbing oily liquids. If immersed in water containing oils, it behaves exactly like a sponge, with an absorption capacity equal to 10 times its own weight. Thus, by repeatedly immersing and squeezing, the continuous cycle allows the recovery of all the surface oil which is uncontaminated by further chemical agents and therefore completely reusable, leaving marine flora and fauna completely free in their uncontaminated environment. The wool can then be cleaned and reused. With 1 kg of wool are recovered 10 kg of oil.
